Art: PDX
Art: PDX is a collaborative project of the Northwest Film Center’s Young Filmmakers Program and the Metropolitan Learning Center (MLC). Funded in part by a Regional Arts & Culture Council Arts-In-Schools grant, the goal of the project is to teach MLC students to use current and emerging media technologies to create and distribute an original series of video shorts. The result is a unique survey of Portland’s local art scene and the artists who live and work here. Working with filmmaker-in-residence and Film Center faculty member Andy Blubaugh, 46 high school students and teachers Bianca Espinosa and Stephen Lambert produced ten video portraits that provide a rare glimpse into the complex process of art-making and the artistic arenas that are usually off-limits to the public. The featured artists work in various mediums and are in different stages in their careers. The Art: PDX films will debut at the Film Center’s Whitsell Auditorium on Wednesday, July 7 at 7p.m. with students and artists in attendance. An audience Q & A and reception will follow the screening. Admission is free.
